Today, I would like to share a presentation entitled “The Role of Audiology and Speech Therapy in Primary Care (Klinik Kesihatan),” a presentation prepared by two family medicine specialist trainees at Hospital Kuala Lumpur, namely, Dr. Hashimi and Dr. Manichelvi.

As you may be aware, these services are scarce at the primary care level in Malaysia due to limited funding allocations, and there is a notable presence of audiologists and speech therapists primarily in tertiary center hospitals across Malaysia.

This presentation holds significance for us ENT specialists at tertiary hospitals because if awareness regarding hearing and speech issues is heightened at the primary care level, early detection and management become possible. Consequently, the severity of these issues would be reduced, and the patient volume at tertiary hospitals would also be lessened.
